A roundup of what I’ve been reading/watching/listening to in August and sort of also July.
It’s been a while since I first made an ‘Entertainment Lately’ post so I thought I might go ahead and type out a new one! Unfortunately I’m currently in the longest reading slump in all of my 22 years and can’t seem to pull myself out of it for the life of me. (Although I did sort of start reading Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth while I was babysitting last week. We’ll see if I stick with it – but my track record hasn’t been too good lately.) So given that I’m in this stupid reading slump, I don’t really have books on this list – unless you count a cookbook. Which, I mean, is a book.
(It’s also just been a while since I made a post in general because I’ve started working at a restaurant on nights & weekends and I’ve just been tired/lazy when I’m at home. I’ll do better. Promise.)
But anyway, I’ll get to it.
Here are the books (kind of), shows, music, and random things I’ve been entertained by lately:
Chrissy Teigen’s Cookbook:
I go through phases where I’m either really into cooking or really not into it at all. Lately I’ve been really into it thanks to Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook. These recipes (for the most part) aren’t hard at all and are also really delicious. They’re not like.. weirdly gourmet or difficult to follow – they’re just normal foods and meals that taste good. I mean her tagline is, “recipes for all the food you want to eat.” And the recipes really follow through. (Also you get gorgeous pictures of her and John so, win-win.)
The Great British Bake Off on Netflix
I really enjoy reality competitions – anything where people are voted off week be week and there’s a winner in the end. Survivor, Big Brother (although not this season), The Bachelor, Skin Wars, you get it. I like to root for someone. So recently I’ve been binge-watching The Great British Bake Off because it’s on Netflix and I must say… every single person on this show is so nice?
The contestants are always so sweet and helpful to each other and the judges are also all very nice – even when they give critiques. I feel like a lot of the time on reality competition shows where judging is involved (at least in the US I guess) they usually want to showcase different personalities – a villain/hero/comedian/angsty competitor etc. etc.
But on the GBB everyone is nice to each other and helps each other out and roots for each other’s success – it’s sweet lol.
I’ve always be strangely into true crime mysteries and stories (I feel like a lot of people are actually?). They’re like train wrecks – can’t look away and all that jazz. With Buzzfeed Unsolved we get to hear about all these unsolved True Crime mysteries from the voices of Shane and Ryan – who add some humor to make the stories a little less.. um.. terrifying. And there are some scary stories – serial killers, unsolved murders, disappearances. The added bits of humor are much appreciated (while also not being disrespectful of the story).

Also this girl on America’s Got Talent! Oh my God.
I don’t really watch America’s Got Talent but my sister showed me this young girl and I was hooked. She’s a 12-year-old singing ventriloquist (what??) and she’s made me realize just how unfair talent allocation can be in this world. I mean, this child has more talent in her pinky finger than I do in probably my whole body. But it’s fine. I’ll live vicariously through her and just watch her performances on repeat instead. (You should too.)
Kesha’s new album, Rainbow:
I’m so happy that Kesha’s back and releasing music – I honestly loved her old stuff (I thought it was fun to dance to and it was lighthearted). But I love love love her new album. I was here for Lady Gaga when she decided to come out with a country-pop crossover album (with some rock vibes included) and I’m here for Kesha too. My current favorites are ‘Finding You’ and ‘Spaceship’ – though they tend to change from day to day. (I can also get down to ‘Boots.’)
And lastly, recently I’ve been listening to NAO’s album, ‘For All We Know,’ which came out last year
Her album is a mix of electric sounds, pop, R&B and soul. Her vocals are so pretty and I’ve had ‘Bad Blood’ on repeat pretty much for the last week. This has definitely been my go-to album in the mornings/when I’m in the shower/when I’m doing my makeup etc. etc. Everyone should definitely check this album out!
(And I mean of course Taylor’s new single and music video but I’m sure everyone has their own strong opinions about it. People always do when it comes to T-swift.)
What have you been watching/listening to/reading lately?
